In the vast history of the singing bowl my own experience is small but significant. My son bought me my very first bowl as a Christmas gift. It was a beautiful, hand hammered bowl and as I pulled it out of the box I was excited yet incredibly intimidated!
It took a significant amount of dedication to make my new bowl sing. Later I found out that not all bowls will sing for the user in the traditional manner. Some respond best to a gentle tap which activates tones and overtones that are held within the bowl.
My persistence was well worth the effort as this gift sparked a curiosity that lead me to become a Certified Sound Healing Practitioner.
I understand that the use singing bowls are part of an ancient practice that began mostly in Tibet, India and Nepal. Today they are thankfully available worldwide. Sound produced by Tibetan singing bowls enrich our lives by providing beautiful tones and overtones that relax the body, mind and for many, the vibration feels like it touches our very soul.
At West Coast Creative Spirits we offer a selection of singing bowls including hand hammered and machined. If possible come in and try them out as every person has a unique experience with sound and vibration, unless you are as fortunate as I was and receive your bowl as a special gift.
*Hammered Bowls Hand hammered into pitch and shape. Each piece is unique and will produce its own special sound having detailed harmonics and rhythms. These bowls tend to be pricier due to the making process.
*Manufactured Bowls Made by machine these bowls can offer some amazing designs and details. For example, etched symbols, raised designs inside the bowl, often a lotus or buddha. A machined bowl can also feature clean and simple lines. Machined bowls can sound very beautiful and offer more pure tones and overtones due to the consistency of the making process.
